Dr Usman Amin Hotiana

MBBS, FCPS(Psych)

 

Dr Usman Amin Hotiana is working as an Assistant Professor and Head of Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Akhtar Saeed Medical and Dental College. He studied at Aitchison College where he was enrolled to Headmasters Honour List and later went to Government College, Lahore. He graduated from King Edward Medical College in 2004. During medical college he remained captain of the swimming team for three years and got college colours in swimming.
He completed his postgraduate training at Services Hospital Lahore and passed his FCPS in Psychiatry in first attempt in 2010.
Dr Hotiana has expert skills in dealing with adult, geriatric and child psychiatry. He has experience in different types of psychotherapies such as interpersonal, cognitive behavioral therapy, couple behavioral therapy. He is expert in psychiatric procedures such as electroconvulsive treatment and electroencephalogram.
Dr Hotiana worked at Punjab Institute of Mental Health for one year. He supervised ECT and addiction departments at PIMH. He has been incharge of EEG departement at Services (2007-2009) hospital and PIMH(2010). He has been involved in developing National Guidelines for the treatment of Depression which is under publication. He has one research published on treatment of OCD in an indexed journal. He has special interest in research specially in mood disorders and schizophrenia.
He has presented papers at international forums such as national conferences of Pakistan psychiatric Society. Recently he collaborated in arranging 5th SAARC psychiatric association conference in Lahore 2011.
Dr Hotiana has been involved actively in community services in collaboration with MIND and LIGHT organization. It involved reaching the rural community, creating awareness providing regular free psychiatric services.
His future aims are imparting teaching and conducting research in psychiatry.
